Damoh: A man with a slit throat exhibited miraculous courage as he walked almost two kilometres, seeking help after he and his friend were assaulted by unknown miscreants.

Ranjeet Chadhar, 27, a resident of village Bhuar in Jabalpur had gone to attend a marriage in Damoh’s Taradehi village with his friend Golu Lodhi. On their way back, as the two reached village Dhargaur, some unidentified miscreants assaulted them, and snatched Rs 15,000 and mobile phone from Ranjeet.

Armed with sticks, the assailants pushed Ranjeet on the ground and hit him with a sharp-edged weapon, slitting his throat wide.

Bleeding profusely, Ranjeet was unconscious for four and a half hours.

Having regained consciousness in the early hours of the morning, he found his friend Golu Lodhi was missing.

Mustering courage he reached the nearby village, Vadipura, around 3 km from the site, on foot after walking for around two hours.

The villagers saw he was grievously injured and informed the police.

The doctor who treated Ranjeet was surprised with his courage and the miraculous escape.

“The cut was really deep, I am not sure what saved the man,” said Dr Ashwani Patel of Tendukhera hospital.

A case of loot and assault has been registered against unknown attackers. A manhunt has been launched for nabbing the culprits, Damoh Superintendent of Police Tilak Singh said.

Ranjeet is now recuperating in the hospital.
